Director of Retail
Job description
Join us and shape the future of retail at Age UK Wyvern!
At Age UK Wyvern, we believe in building communities where older people can live well. We’ve experienced significant growth and transformation over the last two years, and we’re now looking for a visionary Director of Retail to lead our retail operations to the next level.
Retail is a vital cornerstone of our income generation strategy. With a current annual retail income of £1.3 million from 12 thriving shops, our ambition is to double this contribution within three years. We plan to open new stores, expand our ecommerce presence, and invest in infrastructure, technology, and our incredible team of staff and volunteers.
This is an exciting opportunity to be our first-ever Director of Retail, with the freedom to innovate, lead change, and drive a strategy that supports our long-term success.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize retail income, profitability, and efficiency, both in-store and online.
- Oversee a multi-site operation, including new shop openings, property negotiations, and ongoing portfolio management.
- Lead and inspire a high-performing team of retail and logistics professionals, volunteers, and shop managers.
- Drive operational excellence and ensure that every retail touchpoint reflects the Age UK Wyvern brand and values.
- Work with the senior management team to integrate retail into our broader income generation strategy.
- Take responsibility for budget planning, financial performance, and cost control.
- Champion innovation, continuously seeking new opportunities for growth and improvement.
About You:
We’re looking for a commercially-minded leader with a passion for making a difference. You’ll bring:
- Proven senior-level experience in multi-site retail management (charity retail experience desirable).
- A track record of driving income growth and implementing operational plans.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, develop, and empower teams.
- Experience of budget management, performance analytics, and compliance.
- A strategic, innovative mindset with the ability to spot and seize opportunities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of an ambitious, growing charity with a clear vision and purpose.
- Lead a pivotal area of the organisation where your impact will be immediately visible and valued.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Work with a supportive, passionate team committed to making a real difference in the community.
