Without our people, and especially our volunteers, our shops simply wouldn’t be able to thrive and generate the income they need to for their parent charities. Volunteers, and specifically young volunteers play a crucial role in the day to day running of charity shops – dressing the window, championing various causes, connecting with their local community, delivering excellent customer service.

We reached our to our 2024 Young Volunteer of the Year winner to find out more.

Cancer Research UK is proud to nominate some of our dedicated shop volunteers each year for the prestigious Charity Retail Awards. The awards are a wonderful way to celebrate the incredible work of our shop volunteers, and we’re honoured to be a part of the event.

Lottie O’Connor, from Cancer Research UK’s Ilkley shop, was named Young Volunteer of the Year in 2024.

I was so excited and grateful and shocked all at the same time. I had a wonderful evening with my shop manager, Shelley, meeting everyone there, giving people hope and being told I’m an inspiration was just the cherry on top! I can’t wait to find out who wins this year, it’s a very special award.
