Fashion and fundraising: Hospice in the Weald’s sustainable shopping events

It’s been a busy year of fashion and fundraising at Hospice in the Weald. From bargain sales to designer finds, shoppers across Kent and Sussex have been embracing sustainable fashion whilst helping raise thousands of pounds to support people facing terminal and life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones.

The year so far

In March, the Hospice held its Outlet Sale at the Angel Centre, where shoppers were invited to fill a bag for £5. The event raised £1,800 in just one day.

Next came the Tabletop Sale at Sevenoaks High Street, a three-day event which also offered the popular fill a bag deal. The result? A huge £11,000 raised to support local hospice care.

The first-ever Love Your Labels Summer event took place in July. More than 200 shoppers attended, snapping up around 800 items and raising just over £8,000. With an average basket value of £39, the event proved that second-hand shopping is in high demand.

The End of Summer, Early Winter sale on 13th September raised an amazing £3,000. This event also achieved several other non-financial goals, as 800 sacks of clothing were sold - that's 800 sacks no longer in the warehouse, shops or landfills! Many attendees commented how grateful they were for the event, creating an opportunity for members of the public to buy good quality clothing at such cheap prices, creating amazing social value and enhancing the reputation of the Hospice as a force for good in the community.

Love Your Labels Lock-in September, at Sevenoaks High Street is an exclusive event and invites shoppers to dive into rails bursting with designer labels and high-end high-street brands. From clothing and shoes to accessories for both men and women, Love Your Labels offers popular brands at bargain prices. Entry is free but you can get first dibs on the best pieces with a Priority Entry Ticket. This year the night of the event took a whopping £16,700 from more than 283 transactions and 1009 items being sold! The shop then continued to reap the rewards in the days following the event, bringing the total to over £39,000 in just five days!

What shoppers are saying

Ella, a pre-loved shopping enthusiast, attended the Love Your Labels event last year and had positive things to say about her experience, as well as the difference shopping can make to those facing terminal and life-limiting illnesses.

“Second-hand clothing is so popular now, and events like Love Your Labels are the perfect place to find good pieces. I found so many nice fits, including a Burberry trench coat! It’s such an amazing event with a buzzy atmosphere, I queued to get in because it was so busy when I arrived,” said Ella.
“Hospice in the Weald is an amazing charity, and they do such excellent work for people in the community. They are incredibly caring people, whether you see them in the charity shop or helping patients at the Hospice.”

From hidden gems to designer steals, every purchase at Hospice in the Weald’s events counts.
