The Charity Shop Gift Card continues to grow

There has been huge growth in the gift cards both purchased and spent in partner charity shops this year with a near trebling of sales compared to last year. This has been led by an eight-fold increase in sales made to support agencies, a key market for the scheme.

The Charity Shop Gift Card is an efficient way for councils, housing associations and other support agencies to distribute financial support to people in hardship. As well as providing an income boost for local charity shops, by using the scheme, support agencies are:

  • Helping funds go further

  • Providing the dignity of choice for recipients

  • Enabling recipients to shop in a safe and supportive environment with natural guardrails of how the funds can be spent

  • Creating social value

With a webinar taking place in September focussing on the social value of charity shops with Local Authorities and housing associations, we are expecting even more interest in the scheme. The webinar includes a representative of Worcester City Council explaining their experience of the scheme, Robin Osterley of the Charity Retail Association and Anna Phillips of Foot Anstey. We’re hoping that CRA members can help get the word out to councils and housing associations in your area about the webinar.

There will be more details to follow soon.
