Volunteer stories: Precious at Willow

In our regular feature on volunteers, this week we meet Precious, a student who volunteers at Willow after school and loves being part of the team.

Precious is still at school but, as she lives locally, manages to fit in volunteering at Willow’s Hatfield shop once a week after school.  Here, Precious tells us how she came to be involved, and her favourite things about volunteering.

"I used to shop at the Willow Hatfield shop, so when my school asked us to do community service I decided to volunteer here. I sent an email to Jo at Willow, who helped me arrange the placement. I started volunteering in September 2024 and I’ve loved it ever since. I remember loving the way the staff and volunteers were when I came to shop. They have always been so friendly and welcoming."

Precious quickly settled into her role, helping behind the scenes:

"I do the tagging and usually work in the back room, sorting donations, identifying what needs to be sent for ragging and hanging up the clothes. I prefer to stay in the back room than be on the tills."

She speaks highly of the support she receives from the team and the atmosphere in the shop, which makes all the difference after a long day at school!

"The manager is really supportive and always makes sure the team are ok. I am often exhausted after school, so it is good that there are usually snacks and I can have something to eat. I also like that it’s not just about work – we get to talk and it’s just a nice and relaxed environment."

Precious is keen to encourage others to get involved too:

"I would say to anyone who wants to get involved in volunteering to give it a go!"

We couldn’t agree more, Precious!
