The festivities began at 10am as Anita Dobson cut the Superstore’s birthday cake to cheers from an enthusiastic crowd gathered at Richfield Avenue. The Superstore was transformed as it offered a range of activities including upcycling workshops, personal fashion styling sessions, children’s activities and free cake and refreshments for customers.

Since opening its doors one year ago, the Reading Superstore has quickly become a thriving hub for sustainable shopping in the local community. Offering a wide variety of preloved and upcycled furniture, homeware, fashion, books, toys, and more, the store also features a popular vintage section, Café, and alterations service, making it a destination in its own right.

Annie Campbell, Interim Retail Director at Thames Hospice said:

“We are delighted that so many customers joined us today to celebrate our first year. Our team have worked tirelessly to make the Superstore an integral part of the Reading community, and we are so grateful for the continued support, generous donations, and dedicated volunteers who make it all possible.”

Special guest, Anita Dobson, added:

"I’m so proud to have supported Thames Hospice for nearly ten years. The care they provide to families during their most difficult times is truly outstanding. I absolutely love this Superstore, and all the Thames Hospice shops, for their unique charm, beautiful layout, and the incredible treasures you can always find inside."

Among those also celebrating was Christine, a volunteer from Reading, who shared:

“I’ve been volunteering here almost since the Superstore opened and I love being part of such a hardworking, welcoming team and today’s celebration just shows how loved this place is by the community. It’s more than just a shop, it’s a very special place.”
