“It’s my happy place!”

These are the words of Margaret, one of Woking & Sam Beare Hospice’s most loyal volunteers. Welcoming everyone who walks through the doors of the Knaphill shop, Margaret can usually be found there 6 days a week, assisting Manager, Sarah Cameron.

“Margaret is an absolute legend,” says Sarah. “I couldn’t wish for a better volunteer. She’s a wonderful part of our retail team, and her fabulous personality lights up the shop. She’s always singing and dancing and is great with the customers.”

After retiring from her job as a Catering Manager and losing her husband eight years ago, Margaret wanted to keep busy so offered to volunteer for the Hospice. She spent four years at the Horsell shop before moving to the Knaphill pop-up shop, and finally to the new shop that opened in Knaphill last year.

Margaret knows first-hand how important the care of the Hospice is after they looked after her mum at the original Hospice in Hill View Road.

“I’m just here to help the Hospice,” says Margaret. “I’m so passionate about the cause and the shop. It really is more than just a shop. I want to make every single person who walks through the door feel welcome. Sometimes we may be the only person they see all day. I get people talking about loved ones they’ve lost and how great the Hospice was to them. It feels like a family here and I’m happy to do whatever is needed.”
